Fishing on Pelican Lake

Fishing on Pelican Lake is a fairly shallow and weedy lake. The Minnesota DNR does carefully manage the bass and pike populations with special length regulations every year. This has helped not just the populations here but, gives guests a good chance at hooking up with some trophy sized fish!

The deepest spots of the lake don’t quite hit 40 feet. Pelican offers an array of structure, from rock reefs to flats, sand, and weeds lines. Early summer offers some great shoreline fishing in the reeds for bass and panfish. Be sure to take a lake map with, Pelican is fairly well marked for shallow hazards but, we still caution anglers and boaters. We have lake maps available and be sure to ask us before you head out on the water, we are always happy to share current tips and let you in on what’s working!

The opportunities for all anglers are almost endless, no matter which species you are chasing. Famous for our big Bluegill, our panfish are a fun and delicious catch! We have great Crappie fishing in the spring and fall. The lake has numerous Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass with many hitting the trophy size mark.

Anglers have a blast catching these amazing fighting fish on plastics and top water baits. The Northern Pike are numerous and aggressive year round. They put up a good fight and several in the 40″ range are caught every year. Walleye can be found off the rock reefs and weed edges and offer a little more of challenge but, some very healthy and heavy ones are out there!
